[11 Sep 2006|01:47pm]

The Fall issue of Knitty is up! I've been waiting for this issue -- the summer issue didn't thrill me too much but this one has!! I can now add Lucy & Ivy to my "to knit" list. There's a few other great patterns this time too. "Intolerable Cruelty" is a pretty skirt.

Shout Out [17 May 2006|12:17pm]

What can we do to make this community more lively? How would it better serve your needs? Is it worth having a community JUST for knitting photos, or could we diversify? I'm just looking for community input, I would love if we had more dialogue going on in this community.

Ohyes&: since I have no picture to share, I brought a linky goody.

Knitting needle case [15 Apr 2006|05:25pm]

It's not "knitting" ... but this is a knitting needle case I made for myself. Got sick of keeping my needles in a big coffee mug!

Tried to take a closeup of the cute glass fishie beads, but my camera doesnt do closeup small well.

In Search of the Golden Fleece [14 Mar 2006|10:26am]

I have no pictures this time, just exciting news!

I've always been interested in fibre and fabric and wool and colours and textures --- even before I learned to knit and crochet. I come from a long line of knitters, crochetters and fibre 'artists'. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting at my mother's feet during a gathering of her sisters, my grandmother and various friends, listening to their chatter and watching them knit or crochet --- of playing with their yarn and wool -- feeling the textures and mesmerizing at the colours.

I've also been interested in raw resources --- in raising Alpacas or sheep, myself and learning to go from fleece to wool... of producing my own range of textures and colours and fibres.

A friend of mine has an uncle that farms and he has a flock of sheep. He usually just donates their fleece to crafy friends and this May when they sheer --- he's putting together a big box of fleece for me!

I'm so excited!
And I have so much research to do now! How do I clean it, process it, comb it, card it, spin it, dye it??!! I have much to learn and research. I don't even know where to start.

I'm always learning and researching.
I love it.
Another new project and perhaps hobby.
This will be an interesting summer, in that respect.

Fleece! yay!

hellu everyone! [25 Feb 2006|12:18am]

[ mood | sore ]

hey, new to the group. hope to get a digital camera soon, until then, no photos to put with my posts unless i use that of rottenxrobin.
I'm venturing into cables, found them quite intimidating but now they're easy, just a pain in the ass...even made up my own scarf pattern, very simple, i'm sure someone's already come up with it, but here it is:

US 4
Baby Yarn

CO 22
K 4 rows
1)k2, p2, sl2 to cn & hold in front, k2, k2 from cn, p2, k2, p2, sl2 to cn & hold in back, k2, k2 from cn, p2, k2
2) p2, k2, p4, k2, p2, k2, p4, k2, p2
3) k2, p2, k4, p2, k2, p2, k4, p2, k2
4) as row 2
5) as row 3
6) as row 2

Repeat to desired length, ending row 1.
K 4 rows, BO.

it's hard to describe, i apologize for the lack of photo. it's got two cables that twist in opposite directions and i think it's pretty, i'll try to update with a photo.

WIP's and Finished Bags [15 Feb 2006|09:26am]

Here's a bunch of stuff I've made in the last while....

I really like making fulled bags. (Most people refer to them as "felted" bags --- but really the proper term is fulled, if you are 'fulling' them after knitting them. "Felting" uses the raw fiber before it's made into yarn/wool while "Fulling" is done to a piece made of wool or yarn. Most people don't know the difference --- and refer to it all as "felting".)

ANYhow ..... I have lots of pretty things to look at here...

Snow Devil hat? [14 Feb 2006|05:43pm]

[ mood | nervous ]

Just wondering if anyone here has tried doing the Snow Devil Hat from http://www.domiknitrix.com/ ?

A friend bought me the pattern to make him one of those hats, and with so many pages of instructions, and the "Challenging" label, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed...

I'm really interested to see close-up pics of the finished object. All the pics she has on her site are just people grinning from too far away...

My latest knitting... [10 Feb 2006|11:13pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Ok once you get past the dorky pic of me this is my latest scarf I've finished. I call it "Woman of Fire". I am thinking of re-doing the fringe cause I'm not happy with it an I'm thinking of adding in glass beads.
